Henna is considered auspicious in India and used extensively for hair care and body adornment. Its green leaves are dried in the shade before being ground to a fine powder.
Henna powder made into a paste with water is applied on hands and feet in beautiful patterns and then left to dry, resulting in a deep red colour. It is applied to hair not just for red colour but for its numerous other benefits.

To use: Mix up henna powder with water (you can add lemon juice, coffee, red wine or tea to create different shades) until it becomes a paste. Leave in a bowl to release dye for at least one hour and up to 12 hours.
Apply to hair - leave on hair for at least 1/2 hour and up to 8 hours. Rinse.
