    About Us: 10

Hi and Welcome to GroovyCart !

My name is David Strachan.  GroovyCart is the onward development of my final year computing degree course project taken at West Hertfordshire College, Watford, UK.

I had the idea for a generic on-line shop aimed at small businesses back in October 2006 and created a small working prototype for my final year project.

Since leaving college, I decided there was a gap in the market and to turn the idea into a business.  In October 2007, the whole family got involved, with my father joining me.  He has been working in the computing industry for nearly 30 years and started programming back in the days of punched-cards and paper-tape.  For the last 10 years he was a software project manager and is now enjoying getting back to the technical-side of software development.

From October 2007, the software was been re-engineered using Agile techniques based around fortnightly iterations within a 90-day major release cycle.  The initial major release is called R100.

We've been attending the Business Link courses to get advice on the business start-up front.

It's a small family business based in the Hertfordshire town of Tring.

The software runs on our own server, which is an Apple G5 Xserve running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.  It is written in PHP and MySQL, although we are exploring future technologies.

We are currently in a trial phase and planning to launch fully live in April 2008 (which will align with major release R200).
