Name:

This is the name that you want the product to be known by, examples of this could be 'iPod Nano' or 'Painting of beach by ...'

This field is required, it will be displayed next to the product when ever it is displayed on the screen.

You will want this field to be fairly specific because this is what your customers will see when searching products.

You should try and keep the product name unique so your customers do not get confused with multiple products.

For more information on the product name see product name.

Description:

The description of the product should tell the user all about the product they are buying.

Potential clients my be interested in:

  • Dimensions
  • Weight
  • Manufacturer/Author
But depending on what you are selling the description will change, if you are selling books, then you will want to state: number of pages, author, publisher, release date etc.

You will want to put in as much information about your product here because this is the easiest place to put key words that your consumers are likely to search.

For more information see description.

Tags:

Tags are used to link all of your products together, this makes it really easy for your customers to find products that are related.

Tags are also very important for getting your products found on search engines. The tags you put on each product will be used as keywords for that product on most search engines.

If you give the same tag to multiple products then a link will be put in that will show the user all the products with that tag.

For example if you were selling CDs you could put the: band name, genre and publisher. as tags, then if the user clicks one of the tags it will show them all other CDs that are from the same band/genre/publisher.

Example tags for clothes could be:

Blue, Jeans, Trousers, Male, Size 32-34

Note: Tags are separated with a comma.

For more information on tags see tags.

P&P (Postage and Packaging) Price Band:

This will determine the cost of the P&P for this product.

For more information on setting up postage bands see postage bands.

Postage bands can be setup from www.groovycart.co.uk/Admin/EditPostageBands.php or buying clicking on the link that says 'Edit Postage Bands'

If you do not have postage bands set up then the delivery price will automatically be set to free.

When you select your postage band it will show you the cost that customers will pay for different types of delivery to the right of the dropdown.

If you want people to be allowed to pay for their product when it is delivered or when they pick it up then you should tick yes, otherwise you should tick no.

The customer is still allowed to select any other payment methods that you have set up i.e. PayPal or Google Checkout.

If your customers select to pay on pickup/delivery all other products in that order will expect to be paid for on pickup/delivery.

for more information see payment on pickup/delivery.

Product Category:

The product category will determine what items are displayed in the navigation bar on the left side of your shop.

The left box allows you to create a new category for that product, this will then add a button to your navigation bar with that category name.

The next box allows you to put this product into a category you have already used for another product.

Image of the Navigation BarIn the above image you can see that the shop has at-least one product that has its category set as Book. When a customer clicks that link they will be taken to a page that shows all the products in that category.

For more information see category.
